Movement: Your Body’s Voice

Date:  Tuesdays and Thursdays (Tuesday, September 11- Thursday November 15)
Instructor: Marie Fourcaut
Price:  $18 drop in, $160 for 10-class card

In this class we’ll learn to Walk to discover and create Space; Connect with each other and learn to Listen; Perform for each other and appreciate the resonances as we Converse. Each participant will practice finding comfort in Stillness, and from Stillness develop their own movements, gestures, and acts through exploration of specific themes. Music, Poetry, and Images will inspire us to connect with our own unique body’s voice, and with others. This class is opened to everyone willing to explore new possibilities of movement through the language of the body. Come with comfortable clothes and an open mind.

Marie Fourcaut, born in Algeria and raised in France, began her professional dance career in Paris at the age of 16 as a member of Les Ballets de Nina Tikanova. She went on to work with leading modern dance companies in France including the Joseph Russillo Dance company, Compagnie Anne Beranger, Les Ballets Blaska, and Alwin Nikolais’ Company in Angers. Marie co-founded the dance troupe Moebius in Paris and was the first recipient of a Ministere de  La Culture Scholarship which sent her to New York to work with Jennifer Muller and the Works. Marie began studying yoga and pilates in 1990 and has taught hundreds of students of all levels, from novice to professional dancers, for 15 years in Connecticut. Marie focuses on awareness of the breath, the flow of movement through the poses, and precise alignment. Marie brings her passionate presence and intuitive intelligence of the body to create a unique and challenging practice of yoga. More information about Marie here>

Dance Outside The Box

Dance Improvisation and composition with Kate Gamble and Kay McCabe

June 15th 4-7 Composition: Co- create new dance piece with choreographer, Kate Gamble.  Brief warm up, Improvisation, Develop material and Structure.

June 16th 9am-1pm Improvisation: Work on improvisational scores and site specific improvisation in White River Junction with teachers Kay McCabe and Kate Gamble.

Dancers ages 10 and up with dance experience.

Using imagery and grounding techniques from somatic traditions, we will play with gravity, weight, release, and recovery to enliven our movement. Some experience necessary.

Teen/Adult Modern Dance


Dance is for everyone!  Join us as we explore the basics of modern dance.  Class will include floor work, standing center work, phrase work and improvisation.  We will focus on grounding/centering, connection/fluidity, use of space, our relationship to gravity and more.  Most importantly we will aim to leave class with a greater sense of presence and aliveness in our bodies. Dress comfortably for movement.  


Improvisation and Composition

Through improvisational tools and structures we will create short solo group studies taking time to get and give constructive feedback.


Ballet for Modern Dancers

Price: $160 for 10- class series, $18 for drop-in

Ballet technique for the modern dancer will enhance movement ability by encouraging fluidity without rigidity. This class builds a foundation of basic ballet technique and uses it as a springboard for fuller, more expansive movement. Students will focus on the mind-body connection and develop useful imagery and movement vocabulary for connecting with themselves, the space, and each other, using the building blocks of classical steps and positions.
